YAPIS|2011 ILIGAN YOUTH CHOICE AWARDS

Yapis Iligan

I was browsing the internet through Facebook, and Aha! what an interesting thing I found...I was so amazed and surprised to discover this group, some familiar faces are on the rank though, here it is ^_^

I was amazed to know that there is group called Youth Advocates Progress Integrated Services (YAPIS), and they are spearheading the Iligan Youth Choice Awards (IYCA) which is an online and paper poll survey in Iligan City of which this poll's intention is to give recognition in salute to the establishments, personalities and other entities that represent the Iliganon youth's ideals.

YAPIS-Iligan is a community-based organization that are consists of student volunteers and young professionals of Iligan City that are strong advocates of educational development, arts, good governance, ecological awareness and environmental care.

Never heard of them, that's why I was S.H.O.C.K.E.D to know that they are one of the awardees in the National Level as one of the "Ten Accomplished Youth Organization in the Year 4 with its project "Tree Growing", which was held in Malacanan Palace spearheaded by Sen. Fancis "Kiko" Pangilinan, TAYO Awards Foundation Inc., Coca-Cola Barkada Foundation Inc.,  National Youth Commission, Philippine Daily Inquirer and Team Energy.

In 2008, they received their second national award in the 6th Search of the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) as one of the national finalists with the project entry: “Salig Lang” which promotes hope, courage and faith in times of crisis.

Wow! a very young youth organization with that level of recognition and accomplishments...

On the other hand let’s proceed with their ongoing activity which is the 2011 Youth Choice Awards. Actually, 2011 is their second year, which means that year 2010 was a success. The following are the winners of their 2010 Awards.

The poll mission is to uphold and strengthen the young Iliganon's social networks and understanding their preferences, choices and interests. The kind of recognition embraces the youth's active participation, respect, equality, and freedom.

The poll has 17 categories namely; Best Pharmacy in Iligan City, Best TV Station, Best AM Radio Station, Best FM Radio Station, Best Beverage Company, Best Telecommunication Company, Best Money Transfer Services, Best Food Chain, Best Pastry Shop, Best Store for School and Educational Supplies, Best TV News Program, Best TV Evening Drama Show, Best Variety Show, Best Coffee Shop, Best Restaurant, Best Radio DJ (Male), Best Radio DJ (Female), Best Radio Commentator.

The awarding ceremony of this poll is on October. However, the organization did not yet disclosed the specific date, and venue for this event. The results will be based on the following percentage: 20% of the weight is from the online poll result, while the 80% weight is from the actual (paper-poll).

It was really a pleasure knowing such people who have a joyful heart to rendering service with the less fortunate ones. I believe through their efforts also, some establishments here in Iligan City will be given recognition of which they are worthy of.

On the part of the nominees being acknowledge to be doing good in the field of which they are into, is something they should be proud of.

Congratulations to you people for a job well done. God bless!

Thanks for the explanation of this organization. I remember reading about last years Youth Choice Awards but I knew little of the organization sponsoring the event. Thanks for your comprehensive review of YAPIS, here.
