Twenty year old Elyza Jade Dalongenes snatched the 2011 Miss Iligan crown during its coronation night last September 27, 2011 at MSU-IIT Gymnasium. Miss Dalongenes is a registered nurse of Brgy. Tipanoy, Iligan City. She triumphed over 11 other candidates from the same City who are equally smart and beautiful.
During the preliminary interview with the host of the pageant Mr. Victor Aliwalas an actor and model of GMA Network, Dalongenes among others wittingly proved her substance to the audience and the judges.
The final question asked for her was, "What characteristic of a friend that you would like to keep, and why?," and the winning reply was, "I am not choosy when it comes to friends, I go with different kind of friends, but since you ask one, I would say that I would go for a God-fearing friend, simply because [I am not finished yet] simply because, when our friend are with our Almighty Father nothing could go wrong", then, the crowd of fans roars for victory!
Over the years, I followed Miss Iligan pageant and only this year that the production is so glamorous, compared to the dull production of the past. . Most especially the prizes given were so fabulous and generous. According to Congressman Varf Belmonte it is because of the effort and the cooperation of the City Government and the private sectors. Well, the candidates are flooded with freebies not to mention the cash prizes and even the trip to Hongkong and Macau for the title holder and the first runner-up. Before the coronation night, the candidates had a trip also to Manila and had a chance to visit GMA Network shows like Unang-Hirit, Startalk and Happy Yipey Yehey of ABS-CBN. Takers or clappers no candidate will go home teary-eyed.
Credits goes to Miss. Cathy Tan and the people behind the success of the pageant; the working committees and the sponsors most especially. As a fan, I expect a much more glamorous and fabulous production for the next year...I hope GMA Network will still be their official media partner, such a friendly people to work with.
